Rally for Food Security and a Raise in Social Assistance Rates!
Saturday, April 9
3:00PM
Meet outside Food Basics at 238 Wellesley Street East (between Parliament and Sherbourne)

The Ontario Government just announced a miserable 1.5% increase in social assistance rates to take effect in the autumn. Right now, the official rate of inflation is 2% but food prices are going up at 4%, with vegetables increasing at an astounding 18.2%. People in poverty have to spend a huge part of their incomes on food, so this situation means that paying the rent and eating a healthy diet has become totally impossible. A crisis of hunger, beyond the ability of the food banks to deal with, is being created that must be responded to.

The Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) is demanding that the Government of Kathleen Wynne respond to this crisis with an emergency increase in social assistance rates that reflects the real cost of living increases people are facing.

Come out on April 9th, show your support and help us build the fight against poverty and hunger in Ontario!
