Disability Action
OCAP will be joining the Disability Action at MacDonald Block on its way to Queen's Park. If you have difficulty walking, need ASL interpretation or want to go there first click here.
On Wednesday, September 26, a broad coalition of community organizations, trade unions, health providers and low income people will be challenging Queen's Park to increase social assistance, raise the minimum wage and build affordable/social housing.

Khalton Mohammed is a mother of five children who are forced to live on sub poverty welfare payments. They lack many basic household items, including beds and bedding. Provincial regulations permit the City to give Community Start Up payments in such situations but Toronto has decided to only refer people to corporate charity and not give any assistance with beds.

On January 18th 2007, the Ontario Coalition held a public assembly in Toronto to provide an update about the Special Diet clinics and the RAISE the RATES campaign, and to discuss the ways forward in the fight to increase welfare, disability and minimum wage to dignified amounts for all Ontario residents.
